Designing Out Crime - Level 5 Diploma
The term Designing Out Crime has been a discipline within the UK Police Service for over 30 years and the principles behind it have been proven successful time and time again. Delegates attending this course should have a background/current role in Crime Prevention, Architecture, Planning or Designing Out Crime.
Delegates will discuss relevant topics with practitioners and professionals as well as learning how to read plans and drawings for new developments. Throughout the second week, delegates will have the opportunity to put their learning into practice in a Designing Out Crime scenario.
Duration
Eight days over two separate weeks residential classroom-based learning plus interim tasks that equate to two days of work between the classroom weeks. Completion of preliminary work and submission of a portfolio of evidence for assessment within 12 months of finishing the classroom phase.
Qualification Content:
Understanding the principles of an evidence based preventative approach to reducing crime and anti-social behaviour; understanding the concept of designing out crime through the application of CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design); understanding the design phase in relation to the built environment; understanding the role of the planning system in relation to the built environment; applying designing out crime to the built environment; understanding the role of Secured by Design in the design process; understanding the purpose of testing and certification of security products; understanding the use of other schemes to improve security in the built environment.
