Introduction to Crime Prevention

As police numbers drop and resources get reduced, it is more important now, than it ever was, to prevent crime happening. This qualification is aimed at those whose role includes providing general crime prevention advice. It will also add value to existing roles that involve engagement with local communities by enabling crime prevention advice to be offered alongside the main service to help reduce the potential for victimisation and the fear of crime.

Level 3 Award in Introduction to Crime Prevention

Duration:

Three days classroom-based learning plus completion of preliminary course work and an assessed post-course portfolio. Please note that this qualification is delivered primarily as a local event on request.

Course content:

Crime science; benefits of crime prevention; problem-solving; security products; and basic site security surveying skills

Relevant for:

Police, such as Police Community Support Officers and Neighbourhood Policing Teams who give general crime prevention advice; Partner Agencies including Community Safety Wardens, staff working within community safety partnerships and staff whose role includes providing general crime prevention advice. It may also benefit senior officers who have limited working knowledge of crime prevention, small businesses and those involved in making their local communities safer.
